Yahoo unveils new mobile content app at CES

Briefs | 01/24/2007 5:00 am EST

Sunnyvale CA-based Yahoo Inc. took the opportunity afforded by the recent 2007 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to show off its new Go for Mobile 2.0 in beta form. The search engine and portal heavyweight’s latest offering for the mobile market boasts a "carousel"-style interface, where services such as Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Local, and Yahoo Maps – as well as such content as news, sports, weather, finance and more – can be quickly and easily selected. Go for Mobile 2.0 also includes Yahoo oneSearch, a new search engine tailored explicitly to the mobile environment.
The new product is available for download directly from Yahoo for users of Motorola Inc.’s RAZR line of handsets, and from carrier partners worldwide – including Rogers Wireless here in Canada – for use on more than 70 other phone models. It will also come preloaded on select handset models from Motorola and Samsung later this year. "Yahoo intends to be the number one Internet player globally," said Yahoo’s senior VP of connected life Marco Boerries of the product announcement in a media release.
