Bernard Courtois and Linda Gervais are retiring from Bell Canada. Courtois is executive counsel for Bell Canada and BCE Inc. Gervais is Bell’s VP of federal government relations. Zi Corp. has promoted Michael Donnell to the position of president and CEO, effective immediately. Donnell, who joined the company last July as president and COO, replaces Michael Lobsinger, Zi’s founder and CEO for the past 10 years. Lobsinger will continue as chair of the board of directors. Donnell has more than 18 years experience in senior management in the wireless industry. Lyrtech Inc., a Quebec City-based digital signal processing company, has made three changes to its board of directors. Robert Brown has been named chair of the board, while Chahram Bolouri and Alain Lambert become board members. Louis Bélanger, Louis Chouinard and Alain Marchildon gave up their seats on the board. Brown is chair of Air Canada’s board. Bolouri is president of global operators for Nortel Networks Corp. and Lambert is president of One and Company Communications Inc. Spotwave Wireless Inc. has appointed Kevin Moran to the newly created position of senior director, carrier programs. He brings more than 20 years of management experience in the mobile wireless and telecommunications industries to Spotwave. Moran will be responsible for driving sales through the development of carrier programs in the United States. Prior to joining Spotwave, Moran was director, advanced technology for Motorola Inc.’s telemactics communications group. He will be based out of Spotwave’s Chicago office. William Biggar, chair of the board of directors of Cabletel Communications, has announced his resignation from that position. He cited significant time constraints following his appointment as president and CEO of MI Developments Inc. Steve Berry, senior VP of government affairs at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), is leaving the wireless lobby to take on a similar role at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, effective January 2.
