Nextel Communications keeps jostling with industry, FCC
Nextel Communications continues to joust with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other wireless operators over its plan to swap some of its 800 MHz spectrum for a comparable amount in the 1.9 GHz range. Verizon Wireless has been most the outspoken opponent to Nextel’s plan saying that if the FCC accepts Nextel’s proposal, it would essentially be giving away the spectrum. Verizon has urged the FCC to offer Nextel less valuable spectrum in the 2.1 GHz range, but Nextel has balked at the suggestion.
