IT vendors won’t live large on small businesses

Zigging while the rest of the industry zags, analysts at Info-Tech Research Group's Indaba division figure most IT equipment vendors selling in Canada will see gains from large companies, not small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). Even as technology manufacturers ramp up SMB marketing efforts, Indaba says it has identified a "sophistication/adoption gap (SAG)" that will keep small firms from driving growth. Little companies lack the sophistication to take advantage of what will be the biggest IT revenue drivers: new servers, data storage systems and software. According to Michael O'Neil, Indaba's managing director, SAG occurs because vendors have failed to make their wares easy for SMBs to deploy.
