Bell, SaskTel, expand high-speed internet in prairie provinces

BCE Inc. and Saskatchewan Telecommunications Holding Corp. have enhanced high-speed internet connectivity in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, respectively. Bell MTS has launched what it touts to be the fastest internet in Manitoba with symmetrical download and upload speeds of 3 Gbps while SaskTel is gearing up to introduce its infiNET service in Shaunavon. Bell MTS announced the availability of its Bell MTS Gigabit Fibe 3.0 service, Tuesday. Giga Hub, Bell MTS's next-generation modem, works together with Wi-Fi pods to create a seamless Wi-Fi network that covers every room in a customer's home, according to the release. Bell said it is the first internet service provider to launch Wi-Fi 6E pods in Manitoba. “As we continue growing our fibre network in communities large and small throughout the province, we are thrilled that Manitobans will now have access to the latest and fastest fibre Internet solutions to enhance the way they learn, work, and play in a rapidly evolving digital world,” Paul Norris, vice-president of consumer sales and vice-chair of Bell MTS stated in the release. Wednesday, SaskTel announced its plans to launch the infiNET service in Shaunavon as part of its $200 million Rural Fibre Initiative, a multi-phase program aimed at bringing high-speed internet to more than 130 rural communities in Saskatchewan. The initiative is expected to reach over 110,000 residents and businesses, ensuring that rural areas have access to advanced digital tools and technologies. InfiNET service, powered by SaskTel's fibre optic broadband network, delivers internet speeds reaching close to 1 Gbps, allowing subscribers to surf, stream, and share content. The network is designed to support the evolving needs of customers and the increasing popularity of cloud services, video streaming, and smart technologies. The Rural Fibre Initiative is part of SaskTel's plan to invest more than $1.6 billion in capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. In the coming weeks, SaskTel will provide information to Shaunavon residents on how and when they can schedule their upgrade to infiNET service, enhancing their internet experience and opening up new opportunities in the digital world. "Thanks to the upcoming launch of SaskTel’s fibre optic broadband network, the residents of Shaunavon will soon have access to the same high-quality communication technologies and tools as those living in much larger centres across the country,” Shaunavon mayor Kyle Bennett, stated in the release.
